Kenneth D. Lanphier

Kenneth D. Lanphier: Kenneth died Saturday evening at his home in Oskaloosa at the age of 73 years and 22 days. Kenny is survived by his wife, Esther Mae Lanphier of Oskaloosa, and their children and spouses: Lori Sue and Kenneth Arther of Roswell, NM; Douglas and Ann Lanphier of Fairfax, VA; Kenneth Lanphier of Roswell, NM; Cele and Bobby Evans of Oskaloosa, Charles W. and Monique McCall of Del Ray Beach, CA; Connie Lynn and Mike Bye of New Braunfels, TX; Michael and Jacque McCall of New Sharon; and Robert McCall of Oskaloosa; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren (one of the expected joys of Kenny's life was the pregnancy of his granddaughter, Kristy, and the coming birth of a great grandson, Ryan five sisters: Clara Olsen of Davenport; Nell and Bert Farner of Knoxville, IA; Mabel and Buck Porter of Dexter, OR; Mary and Norman Riddle of Pella; and Phyllis VanDerVeer of Oskaloosa; three brothers: Howard and Linda Lanphier of Oskaloosa; Paul and Pic Lanphier of Oskaloosa and Chuck and June Lanphier of Eddyville, two sisters-in-law, Sabra Lanphier of Pella, IA and Mabel Lanphier of Tracy, IA and a beloved dog, Patsy. Kenneth Delano Lanphier was born February 9, 1934, in Tracy, Iowa to Fred and Viola Johnson Lanphier. He attended the Tracy, Iowa school system and later enlisted into the U.S. Air Force. After his discharge he began his working career at Vermeer Manufacturing, after which he worked as a lab technician for several years at the V.A. Hospital, as a business agent for the union for four years at Amana Refrigeration, and as a jailer and later at the court house doing janitorial duties for Mahaska County. He ended his working career at the county shop. He and his wife, Esther, also owned and operated the V.A. Home in Oskaloosa for 26 years, from 1968 to 1993, taking care of 10 veterans. Kenny was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bussey, the V.F.W. in Oskaloosa and a past member of the American Legion. Kenny enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on mowers and also testing his luck at the casino. Kenny is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Maxine Faulkner and Freida Christenson; three brothers: Robert and Jerald and Bill Lanphier, and a dear friend, Alfie Baird.
