Laura M. Howard Nunn

Laura M. Howard Nunn: Laura passed away Monday morning at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 13 days. Laura's long battle with Multiple Myeloma is finished. Her courage, positive outlook and her ability to survive and thrive long past anyone's expectations were a miraculous inspiration to many. Memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice for the future hospice house and to Deerfield Retirement Community Foundation. Laura was a member of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Des Moines and P.E.O Chapter X in Oskaloosa. She was an avid reader and enjoyed tennis, snow skiing, traveling and spending time with her family. Laura J. Mitchell, daughter of Clyde Davis and Veva Strickler Mitchell, was born April 19, 1929 in Danville, Illinois. She was a graduate of Ridge Farm High School in Illinois and furthered her education at Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Peoria, Illinois, where she graduated May 22, 1951. She moved to Iowa City to practice nursing and there she met Russell Howard, Jr., who was attending the University of Iowa. They married February 7, 1955 in Galesburg, Illinois. They made their home in Oskaloosa, where they raised their three children. Laura moved to Des Moines in 1981. She married David Nunn August 8, 1992 in Galesburg, Illinois. They resided in West Des Moines and Urbandale, Iowa, where Laura will be remembered as one of the ""Lovely Ladies"" who assisted at Richardt's Clothing Store. Laura's family includes her husband, David Nunn of Urbandale; her children, their spouses and six grandchildren: Charles and Lynn Howard of Oskaloosa and their sons, C.J. and Brad; Spencer and Laurie Howard of Overland Park, Kansas and their sons, Ben and Dustin; and Lea Ann and Jeffrey Douglas of Burlington, Iowa and their daughters, Stacy and Allison; step-children, their spouses and five step-grandchildren: David and Rosanna Nunn of Carlsbad, California and their children, Daniella and Fernando; and Juliane and Frank Ross of Clive, Iowa and their children, Brandon, Jennifer and Sydney; her sister, Eileen Gibson of Peoria, Illinois; and a brother and sister-in-law, William and Carol Mitchell of Fort Myers, Florida.
