Richard Lee Emanuel

Richard Emanuel, 85, of Oskaloosa, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Richard Lee Emanual, son of Gilbert and Mabel (Poe) Emanuel, was born in Eddyville on April 23, 1938. He attended Eddyville schools as a youngster and was a 1956 graduate of Eddyville High School. After graduation, he held and worked various jobs until he began a 21-year career with Walnut Grove in 1965, where he was a serviceman. In 1976, he moved to Pleasant Hill with Walnut Grove, where they remained for ten years. In 1986, they moved to Mesa, AZ, where he began doing electrical work and eventually began a 25-year career with his wife, Joyce, where they were property managers in Glendale, AZ. He retired in 2010 and moved back to Oskaloosa. Richard married the love of his life, Kathryn Joyce Allgood, on June 15, 1963, at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. They were a team in every sense of the word and were each other's best friends. Richard asked Joyce on their first date at the local roller rink. He was an outstanding skater. They enjoyed spending many hours skating at the Edgetown roller rink in Oskaloosa and the roller rink in Beacon. He and Joyce attended the First Christian Church. Richard was also a lifetime member of the Elks. He relished sharing his gift of being Mr. Fix-it and his knowledge of completing electrical projects with whoever needed assistance. He considered his hobbies of fixing things and electrical work a blessing that he could share with others. Richard leaves behind his beloved wife, Kathryn Joyce; his sister, Helen Sue McDonough of Rock Island, IL; brothers-in-law: Stephen (Betty) Allgood of Eddyville, Dennis (Marlene) Allgood of Oskaloosa, Ronald Allgood of Oskaloosa, Harley Yates of Oskaloosa; sisters-in-law: Carmen Allgood of Ozark, MO, Judy Allgood of Dayton, IA, Phyllis Allgood of Milwaukee, WI; and several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenneth (Martha Ann) Emanuel; his parents-in-law, Cleo Laverne and Lorena Allgood, sisters-in-law; Judy (Les) Cubit, Phyllis Yates, Inez (Curly) Bloodsworth; brothers-in-law Rex (Marge) Allgood, Billy (Betty) Allgood, Donald (Betty) Allgood, Jack Allgood, Larry Allgood, and Gary McDonough, one niece, Martha Ann Emanuel, and three nephews; Chris, Frank and Donnie Jr. Allgood. Funeral services for Richard will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the Langkamp Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Molly Goodrich officiating. Visitation will open to the public at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 10, with the family present from 5-7 p.m. at the Langkamp Funeral Chapel. Burial will take place in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Memorial gifts may be made to the Mahaska Hospice Serenity House.
