Sandra Sue Clark

Sandy Clark, 81, of Ottumwa, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the Hospice of Davis and Wapello Counties in Ottumwa. Sandra Sue Clark, daughter of Herman and Eva (Patrick) Scott, was born on February 12, 1943, at the Mercy Hospital in Oskaloosa. She was raised on the family farm near Bussey and graduated with the last high school class from Bussey Highschool in 1962. While in high school, she worked as a carhop at a local drive-in restaurant. She married her high school sweetheart, Lyle Edwin Clark, at the Bussey United Methodist Church soon after graduation on June 1, 1962. They resided briefly in Oskaloosa, and Sandy worked in the meat department at Hy-Vee. She became a stay-at-home mom after her sons were born, her favorite occupation. They soon moved to Bussey and later purchased farms south of Bussey, Hamilton, and Blakesburg. They lastly resided in their berm home near Ottumwa. When her sons were young, Sandy enjoyed sewing them shirts and herself clothing; she also enjoyed knitting, gardening, canning, shopping, eating out, and reading romance novels. Sandy attended the Bussey United Methodist Church; her faith was a very important part of her life. Her family includes her two sons, James Lyle Clark of West Des Moines and Jeffrey Lane Clark of Ottumwa; a daughter-in-law, Dannette Clark of Ankeny; eight grandchildren: Heidi Pettyjohn, Jessica Clark-Rath, Timothy Wright, Jacob Clark, Austin Clark, Morgan Moyer, Taylor Clark, and Joseph Clark; 9 great-grandchildren: Ruby Moyer, Ryker Clark, Covah Dickinson, Jasmine Rath, and Haley, Aniston, Huxley, Lincoln, and Axl (Pettyjohn); a sister, Joanne (Jim) Day of Chariton, a brother, Steve (Deb) Scott; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Lyle, Sandy was preceded in death by a son, John Owen. Funeral services for Sandy will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Chad Lierman of Trinity Church officiating. The burial will be in Coal Creek Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon, Friday, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will greet visitors from 4-6 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to Wapello County Rural Fire Department.
