Dwight Mateer: Harold passed away at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA Wednesday evening, December 22, 2004 at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 8 days. He is survived by his sons and a daughter-in-law, Dwight Harold Mateer, III and Sandra Mateer of Ankeney, IA and Ronald Perry Mateer of Des Moines, IA and a sister, Lucille Lorence of Oskaloosa, IA. two grandchildren, Michael & Molly Mateer of Des Moines, IA; a niece and two nephews and their spouses: Joanne Lorence and John Otto of Atlantic, IA; Jim & Lynn Lorence of Ankeney, IA and Jon & Tanya Lorence of Houston, TX; and his caregivers at Pleasant Park Estates in Oskaloosa, who he cherished as family. Harold was born Nov. 14, 1927 in Oskaloosa, IA to Dwight Harold Mateer, Sr. & Inez Irene Awtry Mateer. He was a 1947 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. He ran the Oskaloosa J & M Beverage Company for a number of years and had the Star Mail Route from Albia to Marshalltown & return. He retired from the Maytag Company in Newton in 1988 with 23 years of service. On August 6, 1949 he married Bomell Phillips of Tracy, IA; they later divorced. When he was in good health he enjoyed hunting & fishing, as well as Nascar Races. He was preceded in death by his parents. PDF Printable Version
