James Thomas Harvey

December 21, 1916 - April 18, 2004

James Thomas Harvey: Jim passed away on Sunday morning at the Ottumwa Manor at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 28 days. Jim's memory is honored by his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Carlton ""Skip"" Maas of Oskaloosa. He was blessed with three grandchildren: Michael (Scott) and his wife, Wendy Maas of Ottumwa, IA; Michelle (Shelly) and her husband, Tim Lewis of Cedar Rapids, IA and James and his wife Kari Maas of Cedar Rapids, IA; he also had five great grandchildren: Taylor, Alec & Riley Maas, and Courtni & Matthew Lewis. He is survived by a sister, Reta Allgood of Oskaloosa. James Thomas Harvey, son of James Taylor & Pearl Jones Harvey was born on Dec. 21, 1916 in Oskaloosa, IA. He attended Oskaloosa High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from May 23, 1943 to Dec. 10, 1945, serving as a Gunner's Mate Third Class in the Iwo Jima and Okinawa Campaigns. He married Angelena ""Ann"" Vande Wall on March 23, 1940 in Washington, IA. He was employed at Oskaloosa Police Department for five years from 1946 to 1951; he then transferred to the Mahaska County Sheriff's Department, serving as Sheriff from 1957 to 1958. At that time, he began working for the Iowa Department of Treasury and the Department of Agriculture, retiring on Dec. 31, 1979. Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Triluminar Lodge #18 and the American Legion. He was an Honorary and Charter member of the Iowa State Sheriffs & Deputies Association and the Policemen Association. In his youth, Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing; later he enjoyed gardening, playing pool and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Angelena ""Ann"" Harvey on April 16, 2004, and two sisters, Iva Kentfield and Irma Dursky. PDF Printable Version
