Joyce K. Middleton

Joyce K. Middleton, 83, of Oskaloosa, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at the Mahaska Health Serenity House. Joyce Karlleen Middleton, daughter of Nolen Winifred and MaryAnn (Nelson) Huffman, was born January 9, 1939, at the home of her maternal grandparents in Beacon, Iowa. She attended grade school in Beacon and Oskaloosa and was a 1957 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. She attended William Penn College for one year. As a teenager, she babysat for numerous families, and in her 20’s, she cared for her grandmother for nine years. Following her education, she briefly worked at the Milky Way Dairy and was then hired at AT&T as a telephone operator, which she did until 1975. Joyce was united in marriage to Cecil LaVerne Middleton on February 14, 1972, in Reno, Nevada; they made their home in Oskaloosa. She will be remembered as an immaculate housekeeper, and she enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Joyce attended the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. Her family includes her husband, Cecil of Oskaloosa; a sister, Phyllis Haynes of Rockford, Illinois; a brother; sister-in-law, Nolan “Sonny” and Donna Huffman of Grants Pass, Oregon and a niece, Holly Harlan of Oregon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four-year-old brother, James “Buddy” Huffman. As were her wishes, Joyce has been cremated, and no services are planned.
