Lynden Beryl Jones

Lynden Beryl Jones: Beryl passed away early Friday morning at Mahaska Hospital at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 14 days. Beryl was very active in the community; he served on the City Council, was President of Rotary Club, and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce Board, Forest Cemetery Board, city Planning and Zoning Commission. He served as Chairman of the Central United Methodist Church Administrative Board three terms and sang in the Chancel Choir there for many years. He was know for his woodworking skills; his craftsmanship can be seen in the sanctuary of his church as well as in many private homes in the community. He was also an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs. Lynden Beryl Jones, son of Albert & Ethel Cubit Jones was born Oct. 4, 1920 in Oskaloosa, IA. He was a 1938 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and a 1942 graduate of Cornell College. He served as First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force during World War II. After his discharge, he joined his father in Jones Construction. He owned and operated Jones Hardware in Oskaloosa for 35 years, retiring in 1989. On March 7, 1943, he married Harriett Mae Smith at West Liberty, IA; they lived most of their 60 years together in Oskaloosa. Beryl's memory is honored by his wife, Harriett Jones of Oskaloosa, a sister, Beth E. Slobe of Ottumwa; two children: a son and his wife, Philip Lyn & Pamela Jones of Nuevo, CA; and a daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Jones and companion, Mark Dempster of Oskaloosa; three grandchildren, Zakk Jones of San Jose, CA; Allison Smith of New York, NY; and Julianna Smith of Oskaloosa. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers: Rolland C. Jones and Robert D. Jones. PDF Printable Version
