Alberta Marie Davis

Alberta Marie Davis: Alberta passed away Tuesday at the University of Iowa Hospital and Cinics in Iowa City at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 1 day. Alberta's family includes a daughter, Janet (Howard) Kool of McCook, NE and a son, Randell Davis of Oskaloosa; her grandchildren: Annette (Chris) Wagner and Mark (Jennifer) Kool all of McCook, NE; Zachary (Courtney) Davis and Savannah (Jake) Glasgow all of Galena, IL; and Emily Davis of Oskaloosa; and seven great grandchildren. Alberta Marie Davis, daughter of Walter Ernest and Catherine Bucknell Corporon, was born May 26, 1926 in Beacon, Iowa. She was a 1944 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. May 3, 1945, she was united in marriage to Roland William Davis at the First Baptist Church in Oskaloosa. Following her education, she began working for Bell Telephone and later for the Oskaloosa School System in the lunch program. In 1965 she and Roland moved to Grinnell, where Roland managed and Alberta worked at the Gibson Discount Store. They later purchased the Gambles Store which they ran for three of the sixteen years they spent in Grinnell. In 1981, they moved to Hobart, OK where they work for Gibson Discount Store; they lived there for about three years. The company transferred them to Pratt, KS for a few months prior to Roland's retirement in 1984, after which they moved back to Oskaloosa. Upon their return, Alberta began working as a Homemaker Health Aid for the Homemakers Home Health Services, something she did for twenty years. She later worked independently as a caregiver for the elderly in their homes for thirteen years. Alberta was a member of The First Christian Church, where she was in charge of the kitchen. She was a 40 year plus member of King's Daughters, a member of Order of the Eastern Star (O.E.S.) and AARP, where she was a past president, she was a member of Mahaska Hospice Auxiliary, and had served on it board. Alberta enjoyed working with the elderly and also enjoyed growing flowers. Besides her parents, Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Roland on August 17, 1986; six brothers: Thomas Corporon, Lester Owens, Rendell Owens, John Owens, Robert Owens and Earl Corporon and four sisters: Lorena Allgood, Gertrude Parcell, Margaret Willison, Erthal Clark.
