Louise Bass

Louise Bass, 89, of Denver, Colorado, and formerly Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away Friday, January 20, 2023, at the Hospice of Denver in Denver, Colorado. Louise Eileen Bass was born on October 30, 1933, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Robert Loyd and Leah Bass. She grew up with a sister who preceded her in death. Lloyd Bass was a successful Iowa farmer, a landowner who was respected by many. He was a businessman who worked his land and then leased it to others. This land remained Robert’s legacy after his passing. Leah Bass was described as small, quiet, and reserved. Louise was like her Dad in temperament, and tiny like her Mother. Louise went to the University of Iowa for a two-year program to become a Radiology Technician and worked at the university while attending. A rock-solid work ethic is ingrained in a farm family, and Louise was no exception. She had an Aunt and Uncle in Denver who urged her to come to Denver to work when she graduated. She worked at the University Hospital in Denver and various other institutions over the years. Always independent, during the sixties, she moved to Cape Cod for several years, working at a large hospital there. Louise would take the train back and forth from Denver to Iowa and stay connected to her parents, to whom she was loyal all her life. After their death, she returned to the farm each summer to oversee the farm and visit her favorite people and places. Louise was small, determined, and meticulous. She was also a generous, kind, and loyal daughter, sister, and friend. Louise was an intensely private person who took care of herself and her things and made a satisfying life for herself in Denver, yet never really left Iowa behind. Louise found joy in this life after her retirement. She found joy in her routine, connecting with friends, taking care of business, and reading novels in her spare time. Louise is truly missed, and the unique things about her that made her special and memorable. Let’s imagine her today surrounded by everything that she found beautiful and precious in this life. Graveside memorial services for Louise will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa with Elder Sherry Langfritz-DeJong of the First Christian Church officiating. Please use the North 11th Street entrance to the cemetery and take an immediate right and then a left to locate the site.
