Roberta Perkins: June passed away early Monday afternoon, Nov. 15, 2004 at the Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Faribault, MN at the age of 85 years, 6 months and 5 days. June is survived by her children: Gary Morris (Gail) Perkins of Roseburg, OR; Philip Terry (Sherry) Perkins of Placitas, NM; and Karen Ann (Paul) Butterbaugh of Faribault, MN; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Roberta June Perkins, daughter of Chauncey Charles and Margaret Gillespie Morris was born June 10, 1919 in Oskaloosa, IA. She was a 1938 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. On April 10, 1939 she married Harold Franklin Perkins in Lancaster, MO. June's first job was with the Oskaloosa City Hall doing the payroll. June and Harold then moved to Des Moines, where June attended business school and later, Thompson's Beauty School; after completing her education, she worked for Look Magazine in Des Moines, doing payroll and subscriptions. Harold's job in the military then took them to Ft. Belvoir, VA where Harold attended Officer Candidate School; when Harold received his orders to ship out, June returned to Oskaloosa. Upon returning, June opened Perkins Grocery Store on South H Street; in 1953 they moved the store to a location on South First Street. In 1955 it became the first laundromat in Oskaloosa, Dime-A-Time. Harold and June also lived in Seattle, WA from Feb. to Aug. of 1962, while Harold worked for Boeing Aircraft. Upon returning to Oskaloosa, June worked as a bookkeeper at Hy-Vee. From 1965 to 1967, they lived in Kansas, where they operated Gibson's Discount Store. Upon returning to Oskaloosa in 1967, June began working at Mercy Clinic as a bookkeeper; she remained there until her retirement in 1989. June was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed gardening, candle making, embroidery and cooking for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold on March 29, 1990; five sisters: Iva Brock, Stella Mae Davis, Norma McCormick, Georgina McDonald, and Hazel Gonder; and three brothers: John Earl Morris, James Morris and Richard Morris.
